
Maxis and Huawei join forces to develop Malaysia’s first techcity
Maxis and Huawei Technologies Malaysia (Huawei) are collaborating for the development of a 5G TechCity in Malaysia.
On 8th January 2020, Maxis and Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen to explore and cooperate with each other on a TechCity Programme in Kuala Lumpur.
Both companies will collaborate and work together to deliver 4G and 5G capacity solutions for a personalised experience, innovation in 5G network design, deployment and operating efficiencies, as well as the setup of a 5G Innovation Lab to develop and bring new 5G use cases for various industries to commercialisation when the new 5G spectrum is made available.
TechCity is an initiative committed to building an excellent 5G target network, the incubation of new services with new business models and providing the best user experience in building an intelligent, connected world.
Other than that, this initiative will comprise of joint branding and the innovation of successful use cases nationwide. Maxis joins global leading operators in having closer R&D collaboration and access to the latest development of 5G use cases. Huawei has launched the TechCity Programme in cities such as London, Seoul and Tokyo.

Huawei Rotating Chairman Guo Ping said, “By working on the TechCity initiative together, we will be able to successfully create 5G solutions based on local demand and replicate them into global markets in the future. Huawei will support Malaysia in transforming from a technology adopter to a leader in 5G innovation and ecosystem development.”

With the emergence of new digital services, applications, and industries, increasing demands are being put towards building the mobile network, as it brings more connected users, higher customer experience and better application services.
This will require innovative solutions to accommodate traffic growth. In October 2019, Maxis and Huawei also signed an agreement on the provisioning of a 5G network to deliver the best 5G innovation for Malaysia.
TechCity collaboration aims to shape the ecosystem of future digital services in Malaysia. The 4G and 5G networks will be an important factor in driving the digital economy and welcoming Industry 4.0.
Through the setup of the Innovation Lab, Maxis and Huawei will bring about the development of platforms and applications to support relevant and localised 5G use cases that will benefit consumers and companies in Malaysia.
