Gamuda Land forms partnership with Maxis to create first 5G township in Malaysia

The possibility of having a fifth-generation wireless network, or 5G, in Malaysia, is finally becoming a reality.

Gamuda Land and Maxis have formed a strategic partnership to appoint Maxis as the preferred connectivity and digital solutions provider to create Malaysia’s first Maxis-delivered 5G township for Gamuda Cove.

Both companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Maxis to provide and deploy 5G network infrastructure and services in Gamuda Cove.

Gamuda Cove is Gamuda Land’s latest township development which consists of over 20,000 residential units upon full completion.

Other than that, Gamuda Land will also be working with Maxis to fibre up parts of Gamuda Cove with its high-speed broadband connectivity, increasing the possibilities for digital services for the township’s community and businesses.

In a joint statement, the companies said that the partnership will see both parties exploring smart cities and retailing solutions for all Gamuda Land townships in Malaysia.

Gamuda Land Chief Executive Officer Ngan Chee Meng said, “We definitely see technology as a key enabler in driving a smart and sustainable environment into the future but a smart city is not only about cutting-edge technology. It is about smart planning ahead and visualising long-term growth for our townships.”

Maxis Chief Executive Officer Gokhan Ogut said, “The company is committed to cater to the changing digital lifestyles of the general public by reaching out to even more individuals, homes and businesses through its capabilities in converged solutions.”

Ogut continued, “This is an important partnership as we unlock the immense potential and possibilities of next-generation technologies and smart solutions.”

Maxis and Gamuda Land have previously collaborated back in 2018, whereby Maxis provided a customised MaxisOne Home fibre plan for Gamuda Land’s ‘twentyfive.7’ township located at Kota Kemuning in Selangor.

Maxis has started its 5G journey over the past few years by assessing the technology and conducting demo trials in its test lab.

Besides that, back in March 2019, Maxis was the first to launch 5G live trials in Malaysia to provide a deeper analysis of 5G characteristics, including the use of spectrum in higher bands.

Gamuda Cove is located in the Southern Klang Valley along the Elite Highway with proximity to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2. In the future, Gamuda Cove would be a holistic township with residential, commercial, wellness, entertainment, and educational features.
